“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” – Romans 12:12 (NIV)
Recently, a friend posted a new profile picture on Instagram, and I commented, "Julia, you look so beautiful, I miss you! xoxo.'' Then I panicked, “Is her name Julia? I’ve known her for 10 years, how could I forget her name?” The shock of my forgetfulness, the reality of time slipping away, and acknowledgment that my friendships in NJ were becoming memories collided in my heart.
The truth is that relationships need constant communication and care. You need real face-time with friends! For relationships to grow and deepen, you need to put in the time, the heart, and the emotional sacrifice to love each other well. Following friends on social media isn’t enough to sustain meaningful relationships.
It’s the same way with Jesus. Are we just “following” Him, like we do friends on Facebook? He truly wants us to have a relationship with Him—not on our terms, but on His. He’s longing for us to talk to Him, catch up with Him, do life with Him. Keeping in contact from a distance isn’t an option!
Have you made time to pray to Jesus, or has it been too long? Is His face a distant memory? Do you long to walk side by side with Him daily? I encourage you to make the time to meet with Him. He’s eager to see your name on His caller ID.
