“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.” ‒ Jeremiah 29:12 (NIV)
Many of you know that in recent weeks, our daughter Erin was unexpectedly diagnosed with a brain tumor. The moment the doctor came into the ER exam room to tell Erin and me what he found on the MRI is burned into my memory, perhaps forever. The moments that followed were busy and terrifying—an ambulance ride to Fairfax Hospital, consultations with numerous doctors, and surgery to remove the tumor less than 45 hours from the initial diagnosis.
From the night of the diagnosis in the Winchester ER through the days and weeks that followed, this verse is one that I have clung to and continue to pray. God promises through the prophet Jeremiah that we can call on Him, we can come and pray to Him, and He will listen. Always.
I wouldn’t wish what we experienced on anyone. But in any circumstance, in any situation, in any ER room, we can call on God. We can come and pray to Him. And He will always listen.
