“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” ‒ Matthew 6:9-10 (NIV)
Over the years I’ve studied many versions of the Lord’s Prayer. It remains a precious prayer to me as I share it with my grandchildren, the next generation of believers. I slowly emphasize the three YOURs to help me focus on God: “Our Father in Heaven, Hallowed be YOUR Name, YOUR Kingdom come, YOUR will be done….”
These passages keep me focused on who God is and the truth that life isn’t about ME, it’s not about MY kingdom, and it’s not about MY will. I especially need this reminder when I’m upset or disappointed because I’ve changed one of my “expectations” into a “demand” and the demands/expectations of others collide with mine. When I’m overwhelmed, I may not be able to pray many words. I may only be able to plead “help.” I fall to my knees, in tears, needing His mercy. Eventually, His peace, strength and hope always comes! Heavenly Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ help us to fully embrace that this is Your Kingdom and Your Will. Amen.
