Southview is a church in Herndon, Virginia, part of the metropolitan area of Washington, D.C., made up of people from nearly every continent in the world. Our area is a multicultural environment, with people from nations around the world, and Southview reflects that community. Southview’s ‘Project 57’ initiative, launched in 2010, is focused on doing whatever it takes to share the hope and love of Jesus Christ with the 57% of the northern Virginia community who are religiously unaffiliated. Through our web presence, we have had the privilege of impacting people around the globe, seeing lives changed for eternity. Southview’s Intern Program is a training, education, and ministry opportunity for emerging church leaders. We’re looking for innovative, creative types who are self-starters – we don’t want to micromanage you any more than you want to be micromanaged. We’re looking for you to bring passion and enthusiasm for ministry! We’re not looking for any one denominational affiliation, style, or personality type – we are looking for those who love Jesus, are passionate, energetic, and who want the opportunity to try new things in ministry. Thinking outside the box is not optional here – it’s encouraged highly! Southview has a young, tech-savvy staff and a passion to do whatever it takes to reach people for Jesus. This program is about leadership development and spiritual growth in the context of local church ministry. Southview’s Intern Program is part of our mission to be a teaching church. Just as a teaching hospital provides education and training to future and current doctors, nurses, and other health professionals in addition to delivering medical care to patients, so Southview is committed to providing education and training to future and current ministry leaders, pastors, church staff, missionaries, and others called to Kingdom work.
While you’re here you’ll have the opportunity to take advantage of being close to our nation’s Capitol. Washington D.C. has a plethora of museums and historical sites that you can visit, many for free or low cost. You’ll also have the opportunity to reach out and impact the lives of people who are business and community leaders in our country and in our world.

Our goal is to design an individualized plan for each intern based on their gifts, passions, and talents that will challenge them, grow them, and help them to maximize their calling for future Kingdom work.
We see our role as much like that of the church at Antioch in the New Testament. Antioch was a church of prophets and teachers that became a sending church, ultimately sending Paul and Barnabas on their first missionary journey. The church at Antioch was active in seeking and teaching those who were far from God no matter their background, no matter their culture. No matter where they’d been or what they’d done, they mattered to God and to the church at Antioch.
Similarly, Southview is comprised of people from many cultures and nations with talents and gifts that range from preachers to prayer warriors and everything in between. We’re at the heart of the nation’s capitol – and not by accident. We believe God is calling us to be involved in His Kingdom building in ways we’ve never imagined, ways that can’t be contained within the physical walls of a church, and ways which will impact the growth of the Kingdom for generations to come. Our mission is not only to impact our community here, but also to train leaders who will go and impact the Kingdom of God on an unimaginable scale.
Q: What is the major purpose of the Intern Ministry at SCC? A: For young men and women who have an assurance of God’s calling on their life, the ministry provides practical church ministry and life-skills training under the supervision and mentorship of the pastors, staff, Elders, and members of Southview Community Church.
Q: How does the intern begin the application process? A: The applicant should submit an intern application to the church for review and consideration. It should be mailed to Southview Community Church, 2620 Reston Parkway, Herndon, VA 20171 or submitted by e-mail to interns@southview.org.
Q: How many hours is an intern expected to work each week? A: It will vary based on the position. Some interns work 40 hours a week for the duration of the summer; some interns work 25-30 hours a week for a 1 or 2 year internship duration.
Q: Does the intern receive any pay? A: Yes, Southview is able to offer paid internships.
Q: Where do most interns live? A: All interns are encouraged to live close to the church if at all possible. If an intern cannot attain local lodging, the Church Office keeps an active file of Southview families that are available to serve as host homes. The intern is responsible for his/her food costs.
Q: Does the intern have the opportunity to be promoted or hired as a permanent staff member? A: While we often hire from within, we do not guarantee anything in terms of future promotion or employment.
