Homeschool Co-op

Weather and Illness Policies

Weather

We follow Fairfax County Public Schools for weather related closings. If the schools are closed there will not be co-op that day. If the schools have a delayed opening we will still start on time.

Illness

For everyone’s health, please keep your child home if he/she doesn’t feel well or has had a fever, runny nose, bad cough, Pink Eye, or other contagious condition in the past 24 hours.

If your child has had a stomach virus, they cannot return to co-op until 24 hours after they are symptom free. This means 24 hours after they do not have any symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pains, nausea, and lethargy. Once they are completely well, that is when the 24 hour timer starts.

Some contagious conditions require longer isolation. Please be respectful of co-op members and keep a contagious child home.

Based on these (CDC) guidelines, this is what we recommend pertaining to the H1N1 virus:

  • If a child has been exposed to H1N1 and displays signs of possible infection, please stay at home.
  • If a child does NOT display symptoms, parents should use their best judgment.
  • If a child has been sick with H1N1, the child should remain home at least seven days after the onset of the flu symptoms, or 48 hours fever-free (without medication).
  • ALL students should make a regular practice of washing hands, using tissues, covering mouth when coughing, and using common sense about preventing the spread of germs.
  • Siblings of infected children should be watched closely for signs of infection, and should make every effort to prevent the spread of germs. However, the decision to keep exposed siblings at home is the parent’s decision. The family does not need to be quarantined, but all family members should take precautions to avoid spreading illnesses and should exercise both common sense and consideration of others.
