The study of the human body, the plant kingdom, and the animal kingdom will be covered over the course of the co-op year. The classes will include hand-on activities and experiments.
This class will teach the continents, oceans, and US geography through songs and hands-on activities. We will also look at flags, animals, and major geographical landmarks that make each continent unique.
Students will learn basic skills with a variety of art materials. These skills include: drawing with basic shapes, creating self-portraits, forming and shaping clay, using tempera paint to create paintings, weaving with paper looms, and learning techniques in paper sculpture, printing, and stitchery. In addition, art terms and vocabulary will be introduced and explained in each lesson. Well known artists and their works will also be viewed (through the use of art reproductions) to understand art history and art styles.
This class is intended to give homeschooled students an opportunity to participate in a group to learn basic fitness and sport techniques. They will learn proper stretching techniques to start each play and then learn different team sports such as volleyball, wiffleball, and kickball. The purpose is to increase the child’s level of physical fitness and to expand their knowledge of different team sports. An emphasis on sportsmanship will be incorporated throughout the entire program.
Students will learn about world explorers to include Reasons for Exploration, A Sailor's Life, Ships, Navigation, 23 Explorer Profiles, Pirates, and more!
This class will include studies of the following habitats: Rainforest, Polar, Desert and Ocean.

This class will introduce the student to the guitar to include: How to hold the guitar, parts of the guitar, basic music instruction (reading notes and rhythm), use of the plectrum/pick, single notes, and basic chord instruction.
This is a beginning sign language class that emphasizes the basics such as finger spelling alphabet and numbers as well as beginning conversation.
This writing course will draw directly from Student Writing Intensive A and B. It is a two part class. In the first semester, the students (3rd through 6th grade) will learn how to make a keyword outline and write from a keyword outline both short reports and stories. They will learn the proper way to write paragraphs. They will learn how to use six dress-ups including: who/which clauses, -ly words, strong verbs, quality adjectives, because clauses, and possibly adverbial clauses. At the completion of the first semester, parents can decide if their child is ready to join the next class or choose to join another class offered at the same time (art etc.) During the second semester student will learn report writing from a fused keyword outline. The report will include introductory/ closing paragraph and 3 topic paragraphs, possibly a work cited page. They will also learn to use the following sentence openers: subject, prepositional, -ly, -ing, clausal, and V.S.S. They may also learn to write paragraphs from information they have already stored in the brains. The final product will be a (at least) 5 paragraph paper. They will then learn to keyword outline from their final product and give a presentation. I tend to teach to my students ability, so some adjustments may be made to accommodate students. All students will need the following supplies: a 2- inch, three ring binder, paper, pencils or erasable pens, a thesaurus, and Writing Yellow Pages for Students and Teacher (revised edition). Can a scientist be a Christian? YES!!! Students will learn about great scientists who believed the Bible from the book Men of Science, Men of God. Students will also perform hands on experiments that illustrate scriptural truths from the book Science & the Bible.
This class will explore our 50 great states as they are grouped by region. Memorization of physical location of state and state capitals will be emphasized.
This course is designed to be a student's first systematic introduction to the sciences. The course covers topics like the history of science, scientific method, designing experiments, simple machines, archaeology, geology, paleontology, biology, and human anatomy and physiology. Therefore, its scope is quite wide. There are many hands-on experiments to do, most of which will be done in class. It is not intended to be a focused study, but rather an introduction to these topics and an organized study of science. Each student will be required to have their own copy of the curriculum due to the extensive reading requirements.

We travel around the globe to explore the seven continents to include their physical geography, culture, environment, politics and economics.
The course covers such topics as the atmosphere, the hydrosphere, weather, the structure of the earth, environmentalism, the physics of motion, Newton’s Laws, gravity, and astrophysics. The author especially concentrates on the myths generated by the hysterical environmentalist movement. There are many hands-on experiments to do, most of which will be done in class. Each student will be required to have their own copy of the curriculum due to the extensive reading requirement. Students will be expected to take tests and turn in lab reports for a grade.
This class uses The Thinking Toolbox by Nathaniel and Hans Bluedorn. This book is like a toolbox, full of different kinds of tools you can use for different thinking tasks. Just as you use the wrench to fix the sink, so you can use the tools given in this book to solve thinking problems. This course will help the students learn logic and critical thinking skills.
French I is an introduction to the language and cultures of France and French-speaking world. The student will learn how to understand beginning oral and written French and will practice pronunciation in class- it's fun and easier than you think! We will use John Conner's Breaking the Barrier Beginner Level 1. Building blocks of grammar to be covered include: nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, conjunctions, prepositions. Verb tenses include the present, passé compose, imperfect, and progressive tenses; we will also learn the imperative mood. Each student will need to purchase the French Self-Learner Special Level 1 ($70 + shipping) available at http://www.tobreak.com/store/order-online or available for order at the HEAV Convention in Richmond. With proper parent documentation, this course will meet standards for high school credit in Virginia. All students will be expected to take the class for credit; auditing is not an option. Outside study/homework will be required, and tests will be administered and graded for documentation purposes.

Both engaging and entertaining, Ramsey walks students through the steps to financial peace, helping them prepare for the ups and downs of money before they enter adulthood. Students will see an immediate impact on their knowledge of personal finance. The curriculum includes lesson plans, assessments, case studies and activities. The class will run for 13 weeks.
