This is the money given to Southview for our annual budget - that funds the work that our ministry leaders plan locally, nationally, and around the world. This allows us to do the work of ministry, pay our bills and maintain our building. Tithe literally means 10% and is a principle established throughout the Bible as a minimum for giving. There is no prescribed dollar amount that we ask from our members at Southview, but we do teach on the biblical basis of giving regularly and consistently to God’s work. The tithe is taught in the Old Testament (i.e. Lev. 27:30, Deut. 14:22-29, Malachi 3:10) and reaffirmed by Jesus in the New Testament (Matthew 23:23). Paul teaches in the New Testament that Christians are to set aside money based on their income for God’s work (1 Corinthians 16:2) with cheerful hearts (2 Corinthians 9:7). As New Testament Christians, the tithe is a starting point – the beginning. Because we have received so much in grace, we are taught to give generously and freely in response to what God has done for us. We are never to give from compulsion or guilt, but always freely based on what God has given us, that the money given may be used for Kingdom purposes. Any money that we are able to give to God’s work above and beyond the tithe is called an offering and can be given to Kingdom work for other purposes for the local church or to ministries outside the local church.
Our Global Missions Offering is currently split between 4 missions purposes:
Money allocated to the Global Missions Offering is given above the tithe for the purpose of mission work allover the world.
Compassion International is our primary missions partner at Southview. Through Compassion, Southviewers can give offerings above the tithe to rescue children from poverty in Jesus’ name. We focus our church’s work in Rwanda, helping to sponsor children in extreme poverty, strengthen local churches, support a leadership development student, support a Child Survival Program project, provide clean water for communities and families, and much more.
Our deacons at Southview administer a benevolence fund for our member families, to help meet short term needs and address emergency situations. Southviewers can give an offering above the tithe to the Deacon Benevolence Fund that will assist families within our church as they are in need.
All donations are secure and tax deductible. Please print or save a copy for your records. Quarterly giving statements are mailed to all contributors. Online Giving for Southview Community Church is currently managed by eGive.
