View Classes Offered

At Southview, our mission is to help all people become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. God has placed us on a pathway of becoming a community of people who are seeking to become more and more like Jesus every day. We believe that there are four steps of maturity that believers go through on this journey: Seeker, Learner, Servant, and Developer.

Seeker Learner Servant Developer
Moving from those who’ve not yet established a relationship with Christ to the establishment of that relationship and understanding what He has done for you Developing strong foundational habits for Christian living and a strong grasp on biblical truths Discovering your spiritual gifts, passion, and style and utilizing them in service; continuing to grow in Christ and learning to depend on Him every day for guidance Influencing and developing others to follow Christ and serve Him; a truly Christ-centered life

Spiritual growth and maturity is a process. While each believer may progress at a different speed, our intent is to offer a clear strategy of development, NeXt steps, for people at every level on the journey. Spiritual transformation is the work of the Holy Spirit. We do not control the Spirit. We can pursue transformation, but we can’t make it happen. John Ortberg writes, “We can open ourselves to transformation through certain practices, but we cannot engineer it. We can take no credit for it.” We can make a decision to pursue transformation – and that’s what the NeXt discipleship classes at Southview are about.

3 Essentials on Your Journey
DEVOTION Maturity begins with a decision
DEVELOPMENT Maturity involves a process
CHRISTLIKENESS AND DUPLICATION Maturity has a goal

We'll cover all of the world's major religions and the cults and we'll do it in a way that's both fun and educational. The class will cover the range from Islam to Buddism, from Mormonism to Jehovah Witness and Unitarianism. Through developing a good understanding of the other faiths and religious cults we become better equipped to understand the lost around us and develop non-confrontational approaches to reaching them for Christ.

Participants come away understanding their own faith and doctrine better and are more comfortable sharing their faith with the lost, regardless of their religious affiliations. Given the times we're living in today knowing more about the other religious groups and those who say they follow God or Christ but do not will prove very valuable as we continue to take the gospel into world.

Join Beth in an in-depth and very personal examination of this great story of threat and deliverance. She peels back the layers of history and shows how very contemporary and applicable the story of Esther is to our lives. If you've ever felt inadequate, threatened, or pushed into situations that seemed overpowering, this is the study for you. Just as it was tough being a woman in Esther's day, it's tough today. This portion of God's Word contains treasures to aid us in our hurried, harried, and pressured lives.

There will be nine weeks of personal interactive study five days a week plus viewer guides for the group video sessions.

Respectable Sins: Confronting the Sins We Tolerate by Jerry Bridges

Have Christians become so preoccupied with the 'major sins' of our society that we have lost sight of our need to deal with our more subtle sins? Have we created a sliding scale where gossip, jealousy, and selfishness comfortably exist within the church? In short, some sins have simply become acceptable. Jerry Bridges returns to his trademark theme of holiness and addresses a dozen clusters of these 'acceptable' sins that we tend to tolerate in ourselves – such as jealousy, anger, pride, unthankfulness, and judgmentalism. Bridges writes not from a sense of achievement, but from the trenches of his own personal battles. Drawing from scriptural truth, he sheds light on subtle behaviors that can derail our spiritual growth. Throughout, Jerry encourages a victory over personal sin through the gospel's transforming power, the perfect release for those who desire to thoughtfully examine their lives and discover a deeper walk with God.

The paperback book and study guide can be ordered from Christianbook.com for $16.99. The book and study guide provides 8-weeks of study into this challenging topic. We meet each Tuesday at Thea Kane’s house, 2749 Quincy Adams Drive. For more information, contact Edith Yarbrough at 703-709-5777 or edithyarb@gmail.com.
